Down.

Have you ever just felt “off” or like life feels dull, and that you aren’t fully participating in life? Depression can feel like your metaphorical glass is half-empty or maybe even all the way empty! When you’re depressed it can be hard to relate to others and have someone you can fully feel understood by.

If you’re feeling this way therapy can DEFINITELY help get you to a place where you are feeling just as good, if not better than you felt before. The great news is depression is totally treatable and you can start to feel some relief in just having someone to talk to.

Anxious.

Back in the day, humans would get a massive spike in adrenaline and cortisol (a hormone linked to stress) when facing life-threatening situations. Like a lion chasing you. That spike was helpful and triggered the “fight, flight or freeze” response - a life-saving survival mechanism, which was really great when lions were chasing us. The problem is that we continue to have the same physiological response (increased heart rate, rapid breathing, a sense of dread, feeling sick to our stomachs), even when there isn’ a threat on our life. Enter panic attacks. Enter generalized anxiety disorder. Enter phobias.

Therapy can help you reset your anxiety response, by retraining your body and your brain to tamp that anxiety down to normal, helpful levels.

Life Transitions

Are you going through a major life change where things feel out of your control? You might feel confused as to what your next step in life should be and what’s the best choice for you. Or maybe you’ve already taken a big step and you’re feeling whiplash from where you were in life to where you’re at now.

Therapy can help you feel like you’ve regained your footing and like you have clarity on where to move forward from where you’re at currently.

Difficult Interpersonal Relationships

Do you struggle with parent-child relationships? Or perhaps you’re having difficulty communicating with your spouse or some of your friends? It might seem like there’s a block in terms of making them understand you or that you have reached your exhaustion point in trying to “get along”.

Therapy can help you navigate these challenging relationships and improve your communication.

Low Self-Esteem or Self-Worth

Have you ever felt like you just plain old don’t like yourself or that you aren’t proud of your accomplishments in life? Or maybe you feel like you don’t have any accomplishments at all?

Therapy can help you find meaning in your life and guide you toward a life worth living that not only are you proud of, but you are content to lead. Leading a life worth living can help grow self-confidence and help you like yourself more!

Burnout

Are you experiencing work burnout or burnout on life in general? Maybe you feel as if work or life is so overwhelming and it is hard to meet demands or that too much is being expected of you.

Therapy can help you decide your next best step forward. Whether that’s reorganizing responsibilities, or moving on to a different chapter of your life! The process of therapy will help you decide what is most meaningful and important to YOU!

Emotion Regulation Difficulties

Do you have difficulty with regulating strong emotions or maybe you feel as if you can’t “feel your feelings” at all? It’s possible that you’ve been taught to fear your emotions and that you can’t trust yourself in situations where your emotions feel out of control. Maybe you feel like your emotions are “louder” or “stronger” than others.

Therapy can help you learn how to navigate your emotions, by accepting them for what they are and listening to what they are trying to communicate to you. Through therapy, you will be able to better decide what emotions and instincts to follow, how to trust yourself, and what emotion urges are better to not act upon.

People-Pleasing and Boundary-Setting Issues

Do you find that you’re a social “chameleon” (aka you’re a different person in different social settings in order to fit in)? Do you feel like it isn’t possible to express your true self for fear of rejection?

Therapy can help you learn how to navigate people pleasing tendencies and how to use whatever is effective to your advantage while leaving the rest behind.

Perfectionism

Perfectionism can be described in two ways. One is that you perform to the highest of your ability in order to try to achieve perfection and feel exhausted and the other is that you feel like if you aren’t able to achieve perfection at something, then it isn’t worth trying and you tend to struggle with avoidance.

Therapy can help you navigate this mindset and learn how to become more comfortable with imperfection and accept yourself for who you really are!
